Koffucha is probably not a word you’ve heard much before (if ever). It’s a variation of ‘Kombucha‘, which is a probiotic drink made from fermented tea. That might not initially sound very appetising to you, but trust me, Koffucha is completely delicious! Some people use regular coffee to make koffucha, but I am really sensitive to caffeine so I started experimenting and making it with various herbal teas and coffee substitutes such as roasted dandelion root. I’ve had my fair share of kitchen disasters during my crazy fermentation experiments, but I have found dandelion root works very well. Healthy soda There’s something about fizzy drinks that everybody seemsContinue Reading
Eating a healthy diet – 7 easy ways to get motivated
Eating a healthy diet is often looked upon as something that takes a lot of effort. It can be hard to motivate yourself into changing your diet when you are surrounded by ‘convenience’ foods which have been manufactured and promoted in such a way so as to make them easily available and highly addictive. It’s so easy to grab some fast food in a box from a supermarket or takeaway, whereas eating healthy wholefoods can require a little more forward planning. We are often told by authority figures to eat healthily. From our mum telling us to eat our greens, toContinue Reading
Pancake Day
Pancake Day used to be my favourite day when I was little (ok, 3rd favourite, after Christmas and my birthday). Pancakes were just the BEST food. Tasty, sweet and delicious; and somehow so different from all the other meals we had back then, with the added fun of pancake tossing – they had it all. How many times do you really feel hungry when you eat? How many times do you stop eating as soon as you feel satiated? If you go out to a restaurant, are you really still hungry for desert afterContinue Reading
Healthy eating vs diet
There was a time when I thought I wanted to be a dietician. I started a long and arduous process to go back to college and get myself the necessary education; learning about chemistry and biology – which was quite a task, from someone who’d always considered herself a total dunce when it came to Science. Healthy eating – or calorie control? During this process I spent some time shadowing a dietician in a hospital setting. I became quite baffled by the advice she was giving her patients about weight loss. It was all about calorific value; choosing diet drinks,Continue Reading
New Year’s Resolutions
As today is January 1st, I thought it would be the ideal date to write my first blog for this site. And what better subject than ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ – those grand promises we make to ourselves at the start of every year, only to break them within a few days (or sometimes hours). Time to make a new start? Reinvent a brand new you It’s easy to understand how important it is for us to make New Year’s Resolutions – the old year is done and dusted, and the time feels perfect to re-invent a brand new you andContinue Reading
