Relaxation, mindfulness, and meditation
Relaxation and mindfulness are excellent allies when it comes to combating stress and anxiety. They help you to reduce stress hormones and increase the ‘feel good’ chemicals such as dopamine and seratonin.
That all too familiar ‘fight or flight’ feeling is caused by elevated stress hormones in the body such as cortisol and adrenalin. It can be experienced in many ways, such as trembling hands, shortness of breath, nausea or dizziness. There have been many studies, such as this one, which demonstrate the effectiveness of relaxation and mindfulness protocols on reducing these hormones in the body.
Studies have also shown a decrease in inflammation in the body, leading to less physical pain too.
You can think of relaxation as a skill that you need to learn, and practice often, in order to become proficient in it. Much like learning to play a musical instrument, or working out at the gym – at first it can seem extremely difficult.
But once you have the proper training, and you commit to practicing on a regular basis, then it can become like second nature to you.

Important: please do not listen to this MP3 while driving, or doing anything that requires concentration, as you may drift off to sleep while listening.
I recommend getting into a regular habit of listening at a certain time each day. First thing in the morning is ideal, or in the evening before bed.
