Relaxation, mindfulness, and meditation
Relaxation and mindfulness are excellent allies when it comes to combating stress and anxiety. They help you to reduce stress hormones and increase the ‘feel good’ chemicals such as dopamine and seratonin.
That ‘fight or flight’ feeling that is all too familiar is caused by elevated stress hormones in the body such as cortisol and adrenalin. There have been many studies, such as this one, which demonstrate the effectiveness of relaxation and mindfulness protocols on reducing these hormones in the body.
Studies have also shown a decrease in inflammation in the body, leading to less physical pain too.
You can think of relaxation as a skill that you need to learn, and practice often, in order to become proficient in it. Much like learning to play a musical instrument such as a piano, at first it can seem extremely difficult. But once you have the proper training, and you commit to practicing on a regular basis, then it can become like second nature to you.
Guided relaxation / mindfulness free MP3
I created this free MP3 recording that will guide you through a simple ten-minute process of relaxation and mindfulness. Here is the link – it’s on Dropbox, so you can download it to your preferred device so you can listen to it whenever you wish.
Important: please do not listen to this MP3 while driving, or doing anything that requires concentration, as you may drift off to sleep while listening.
I recommend getting into a regular habit of listening at a certain time each day. First thing in the morning is ideal, or in the evening before bed.
