Testimonials for Lisa Murphy, Online Anxiety Counsellor
“Lisa was brilliant. From my very first conversation with her she knew exactly what I wanted to achieve. I am a sceptical person, but I can honestly say that every session with Lisa was life changing for me. The exercises she undertook with me, took me really deep within myself, and the techniques taught, now come naturally, and instantaneously to me when required. If you are reading this whilst thinking about whether or not to use Lisa’s services, please just do it. You will not regret the outcome”

Personal Therapy, Confidential Support
Privacy and confidentiality are of utmost importance when it comes to therapy. Therefore you might be surprised to read this article about the data breach of a certain organisation who has come into question regarding its marketing policies: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/03/ftc-ban-betterhelp-revealing-consumers-data-including-sensitive-mental-health-information-facebook
As an independent private therapist based in the UK, I can assure you that you will deal directly with me at all times.
That means you don’t have to navigate your way through online directories and automated systems, answering lots of intrusive questions without really being sure exactly what your data is being used for.
If you’re interested in working with me, all you have to do is simply call, text or email and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
When do Anxiety and Panic Attacks strike?
Here are some common situations in which anxiety and panic attacks can present themselves:
Anxiety in Social Situations
Going out, meeting new people, going to parties – all these kinds of things should be fun, right?
But sadly, for some people these situations can strike fear into their hearts and make them think up a thousand different excuses so they don’t have to attend.
This can cause problems in relationships if one person wants to go out and the other person is doing everything they can to avoid it.
Don’t let social anxiety hold you back from living your life. My anxiety treatment can help you feel comfortable and confident being around people, whether they’re complete strangers or you’ve known them all your life.
Anxiety and Panic Attacks while Driving
This is another very common problem that people come to me for help with.
You might have been driving for years, but then something happens that knocks your confidence. You might be involved in a car crash, or even just witness one, and then gradually a fear builds within you that it’s not safe to drive. It might be that you’re scared of a certain road, or a specific type of road, but over time it can keep growing and take over so that you’re barely able to even get in your car.
I deal with this all the time, so you’re certainly not alone.
What’s happening is that a part of your mind is trying desperately to keep you ‘safe’. It doesn’t realise that it’s got stuck on overdrive.
I have some excellent techniques that we can work on during therapy so that you can reassure this part of your mind that you’re really safe now. It’s like you’re reprogramming or resetting your mind back to its normal settings.
Phobia of Public speaking / Presentations
This is such a common fear that it’s got its own name: Glossophobia. It’s so widespread that it’s believed to affect up to 75% of the population. Whether you’re giving a presentation for work or university, a stage performance, or even speaking to a camera for an online video, it can be nerve-wracking to have to put yourself out there in public.
I’ve spent many years of my life as a professional singer, and I know how difficult it can be to stand on a stage in front of people, knowing that each one could be judging you. So I have a particular interest in working with this kind of fear.
Anxiety and Panic Attacks around Flying
Fear of flying can ruin holidays, hold you back at work, and cause you to miss out on all those amazing adventures that travel can bring. It might start in the days or weeks leading up to your trip, or when you get to the airport, or at the moment you step onto that plane.
Whether it’s for work or leisure, airplane travel is a lot safer than your anxious thoughts may suggest. One-to-one therapy that’s tailored specifically for your fears can help you get back out there flying to your dream destination.
“Very caring, highly skilled and professional. Overall a highly recommended service”
“This was one of the best decisions I have made. Lisa is amazing at what she does”

7 Advantages of Online Counselling for Anxiety
1. More Convenient
The most obvious advantage to online counselling is that it’s more convenient than face-to-face sessions.
You could relax in the comfort of your own home and speak to your therapist via online video or over the phone, no matter where they live. Or you could stay late after work and access therapy from your office.
You can organise your counselling to fit in with your life, no matter where you are.
2. Private and Confidential
Online anxiety therapy offers a greater amount of privacy than face-to-face sessions.
For instance, you can choose a counsellor who lives in a completely different area to you; hence avoiding the possibility of you bumping into each other at the local supermarket.
The privacy and confidentiality aspect of online counselling for anxiety can be very comforting, especially when the issues you wish to discuss are of a sensitive nature for you.
3. Easier for those with mobility issues
Online Counselling is a great option if you find it hard to get out and about for any reason.
Often it’s difficult to find a counsellor who offers adequate accessibility, or perhaps you simply can’t get out of the house.
‘Virtual’ therapy helps you bypass all of those accessibility issues, as you can speak to a therapist via webcam or over the phone, from the comfort of your own home.
4. Less daunting for anxiety sufferers
Some anxiety sufferers dread the thought of leaving their home to visit a therapist. In these situations telephone counselling for anxiety can offer a good alternative.
Speaking to a counsellor online while you relax in familiar surroundings can often be a much easier prospect.
5. Save on travel time and costs
Nobody likes an unnecessary commute. Online counselling can save you a great deal of time and money in this respect.
Driving around trying to find the therapy room… battling through bad weather.. getting stuck in heavy traffic… online therapy sessions allow you to avoid all these pitfalls.
6. More comfortable
Online counselling gives you complete control over your environment. You could be relaxing on the sofa, sitting out in your garden, or even having a walk in the park as you virtually interact with your counsellor.
All this can create a better atmosphere for you to engage more completely in therapy.
“Lisa is incredible. She has a very calm, patient and understanding manner which put me at ease immediately, which gave me the confidence to talk through the issues I was experiencing”
Some things to bear in mind
Despite all the advantages of online therapy, there are some things to bear in mind.
Confidentiality aspects
When you access therapy via any technical device, it’s important to bear in mind that your confidentiality may be compromised in some way. So it’s a good idea to check your device and make sure you have any necessary security systems updated.
Online Counselling may not be suitable for everyone
If you’re suffering from serious mental health issues and feel you may need support for any crisis situations you may encounter, then online therapy is not ideal.
In this instance, I would advise that you seek the services of an appropriate therapist in your area so you can gain a high level of personal support from somebody who can liase with your GP if and when necessary.
Types of therapy that I offer
As a therapist I have an integrative approach, which means I can draw on many different styles of therapy, depending on your own personal needs.
Person-Centred Counselling
This is a gentle style of counselling in which you can take your time and talk about whatever it is that’s bothering you.
This kind of therapy is very helpful for relationship issues, trauma, grief, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, stress, exploring any issues that have come up for you in life, making decisions, and gaining a better understanding of yourself as a person.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) & Coaching
CBT and Coaching are more solution-focused approaches to problems, and are excellent for issues such as anxiety, stress, general anxiety disorder, worries, unwanted thoughts, anger management, and depression.
A CBT or coaching style means that I will offer more input, teach you various strategies, and work with you to find rapid, effective solutions to your problems.
NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
NLP is a type of therapy that enables you to gain a deeper understanding of the way you think, and to change thought processes that are causing you problems.
It’s excellent for personal development, building motivation, gaining confidence, boosting self-esteem, beating fears and phobias, and learning to communicate better.
Clinical Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a deeply relaxing therapy in which you enter a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility, so that positive changes can be made to various negative thoughts and feelings. It allows us to dip beneath the surface to the subconscious mind and work at a much deeper level, while you remain comfortable and relaxed.
Hypnotherapy can be an excellent treatment for anxiety, trauma, PTSD, anger management, stress, addictions, fears, phobias, and weight issues.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as Tapping)
EFT, or Tapping as it’s often called, is an alternative approach which helps to balance your energy systems. Drawing on the same principles as acupuncture/acupressure, it can be very helpful for a variety of emotional and physical stressors.
