Anxiety Counselling or Anxiety Course – which should you choose?
When it comes to providing anxiety therapy, I provide two options for prospective clients:
1. Anxiety course
My anxiety course is a specialised four-week program that incorporates elements of counselling, coaching, CBT, hypnotherapy and NLP. It’s a very pro-active, solution-focused program that aims to get you anxiety-free – or at least bring your anxiety down to easily manageable levels – over a period of one month.
During the month you will have four one-to-one sessions with me that each last for one hour. We can conduct the sessions face-to-face (if you’re in the Glasgow area), over the telephone, or using an online video service such as Skype or Zoom.
You will also receive support materials for use at home, to help you practice what you’ve learned during the sessions.
The course can be taken over a longer time period if necessary; for example one session every fortnight over a period of two months. This option can be useful for during holiday periods, or if other commitments have come up.
Further sessions may be taken if you come to the end of the course and still feel you’d like ongoing support.
For example, clients often book additional sessions for working on other aspects of their life once their anxiety is under control; for instance diet and lifestyle improvements, relationship issues, and so on.
2. Anxiety counselling
Anxiety Counselling is usually a longer term open-ended program during which you have the opportunity to talk about whatever is on your mind.
During counselling sessions you can speak confidentially about the issues that are troubling you, in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
We don’t necessarily focus on any particular outcome, and we only use counselling, without the other approaches that are included in the full course.
Anxiety counselling sessions last for one hour, and clients usually attend for a period of at least six weeks. You can continue for as long as you feel you need it. Sessions can be held face-to-face (in the Glasgow area), over the telephone, or via online video service such as Skype or Zoom.
Should I choose the Anxiety Course, or should I choose Anxiety Counselling?
To help decide, check which of the following statements applies best to you:
MOTIVATION AND COMMITMENT:
“I feel determined and motivated to beat this anxiety – I just need some help and guidance to show me the way”
“I want to learn techniques and strategies to help me cope immediately with these uncomfortable feelings”
“I really need to manage this anxiety as soon as possible, as it’s having a negative effect on my health/career/relationships”
“I’m ready to commit to a four-week program and get support in making the necessary changes in my life to beat this anxiety”
If time is of the essence and you need to conquer anxiety as quickly as possible, then I recommend my four-week Anxiety Course.
“I don’t have a particular agenda in mind; I simply want to have someone I can talk to about the things that I’m going through”
“I don’t feel ready to commit to four sessions; I’d rather just try it once and see what it’s like”
“I don’t want to try any other types of therapy; I just want counselling.”
If the above statements apply to you, then I recommend Anxiety Counselling.
“I’m a busy person with a tight schedule”
“I may need some evening sessions”
If you have a busy schedule, then the Anxiety Course is your best option.
I have limited availability when it comes to one-to-one sessions, so busy times (especially evenings) tend to get booked up fast.
If you book the course you have the option of pre-booking all your sessions; ensuring you get the most convenient appointment times for you.
“I’m fairly flexible with regards to appointment times”
“I’m available during the daytime”
If you have plenty of flexibility and you’re available during the daytime, then individual counselling sessions should work fine for you.
“I have other issues I want to work on; not just anxiety”
With both the course and the individual sessions we can certainly work on other issues too. For instance, while dealing with anxiety, many clients may also decide they want to work on raising their self-esteem, building confidence, exploring relationship issues, improving lifestyle habits, or increasing their motivation.
All these issues can be addressed in both the course and the individual counselling sessions.
